Beatles Statues on the Hard Days Night Hotel, Liverpool

The Beatles statues on the Hard Days Night Hotel are four separate figures of John, Paul, George and Ringo set high on the front of the building on North John Street, at the corner of Mathew Street in Liverpool. Local sculptor Dave Webster made them for the hotel, which opened in February 2008.

Four figures 30 ft above North John Street

The hotel commissioned Webster to make one statue for each Beatle, and a trade report on the build puts them about 30 ft (roughly 9 m) up the front elevation, so they are seen from the pavement looking up. Liverpool Confidential also credits Webster with the Beatles on the hotel front, in a piece on his 1997 Lennon on Mathew Street. The figures are usually described as bronze, though that rests on a tourism review rather than the sculptor or the hotel. A listed office block, then a 16-year hotel plan

The statues sit on Central Buildings, 37–45 North John Street, listed Grade II since 14 March 1975. It is a stone office block of four storeys over a basement, with a polished granite ground floor and round-arched first-floor windows, running 20 bays along North John Street with an eight-bay return on Mathew Street. Its date varies by source: the Historic England list entry says the 1870s, Wikipedia gives completion in 1884 to designs by Thomas C. Clarke, and one trade report prints 1844.

Cavern City Tours drew up the first plans for a Beatles hotel here in 1992 but could not raise the money. The scheme came back in 2005, when the developer Bowdena took it on in a £10m deal, and total investment was put at £17m. The hotel opened on 1 February 2008, during Liverpool's year as European Capital of Culture.

Webster's 1997 John Lennon statue on Mathew Street stands about 40 m from the hotel by map coordinates, outside the Cavern Pub. The hotel figures are a separate work from the Beatles Statue at Pier Head.
