Beatles Statues on the Hard Days Night Hotel, Liverpool

Liverpool, United Kingdom, 2008

Four statues of the Beatles by Liverpool sculptor Dave Webster stand high on the front of the Hard Days Night Hotel on North John Street at Mathew Street, Liverpool, which opened in February 2008.

The Beatles statues on the Hard Days Night Hotel are four separate figures of John, Paul, George and Ringo set high on the front of the building on North John Street, at the corner of Mathew Street in Liverpool. Local sculptor Dave Webster made them for the hotel, which opened in February 2008.

Four figures above North John Street

Webster was commissioned to make one statue for each Beatle. They were placed about 30 ft (roughly 9 m) up the front elevation, according to a trade write-up of the build, so you see them from the pavement looking up. The figures are usually described as bronze, though the only source for the material is a tourism review. Wikimedia Commons keeps a separate photo category for each of the four, and the Lennon figure is on the north-west corner of the building.

A Victorian office turned Beatles hotel

The hotel occupies Central Buildings, a Grade II listed commercial building designed by Thomas C. Clarke and completed in 1884. Work on the conversion began in 2005, and the Hard Days Night Hotel opened in February 2008, the year Liverpool was European Capital of Culture. One project report dates the building to 1844, which looks like a slip for 1884.

The same sculptor as the Mathew Street Lennon

Dave Webster also made the John Lennon statue on Mathew Street, unveiled in 1997 outside the Cavern Pub. Going by map coordinates, it stands about 40 m from the hotel, so both works fit in one short walk. The Cavern Club is on the same street.

These facade figures are a different work from the Beatles Statue at Pier Head and from the bronze band-and-bench group inside the Rubber Soul complex on Mathew Street.
