Yellow Submarine Sculpture in Pushkin, St Petersburg

Saint Petersburg, Russia

The Yellow Submarine sculpture stands beside a car-service complex at Novoderevenskaya ulitsa 16A in Pushkin, St Petersburg, and was made by the complex's owner, Sergei Novozhilov.

The Yellow Submarine sculpture near St Petersburg stands at Novoderevenskaya ulitsa 16A in the town of Pushkin, next to a car-service complex close to the Kolpinskoye shosse. One city round-up says the complex's owner, Sergei Novozhilov, made it from a promotional poster for the Beatles' Yellow Submarine. It sits alongside other rock-themed pieces.

A car-service owner's tribute

No city body or fan club commissioned this submarine. The published record is thin. Three short write-ups describe it: a Saint-Petersburg.ru round-up of Beatles places dated 3 March 2020, a Pushkin local guide, and a 2023 Beatles walk in the city magazine Fiesta.ru, which calls it a modest rock-music memorial beside the car service. Only the Saint-Petersburg.ru piece names a maker: Sergei Novozhilov, owner of the car-service complex, who it says took the look from a promotional poster for Yellow Submarine. No source gives an installation date, size or material, and no news report has covered it. It was standing by March 2020, and OpenStreetMap still maps it in 2026.

The same round-up says Novozhilov didn't stop at the Beatles. On the same lot are figures modelled on the heads from the cover of Pink Floyd's 1994 album The Division Bell, plus a large electric guitar.

In Pushkin's Novaya Derevnya

The submarine is often filed under the wrong district. It is in the Novaya Derevnya part of Pushkin, the town that holds the former imperial estate of Tsarskoye Selo, roughly 24 km south of central St Petersburg. The mix-up probably comes from the road: the map point is close to the Kolpinskoye shosse, named after Kolpino.

From the station over the level crossing

The Pushkin guide puts it about 500 m from Tsarskoye Selo (Pushkin) railway station: cross the tracks at the level crossing towards Kolpino and walk or take local transport to number 16A. It is unrelated to the steel submarine Cammell Laird apprentices built in 1984, now at Liverpool John Lennon Airport.
