Computed from the published records on 14 October 2026. Distances are straight-line.
Hamburg's Beatles history is mostly the club years of 1960 to 1962, and nearly all of it sits within a few hundred metres in St. Pauli. Most of it is on Große Freiheit, the side street off the Reeperbahn, or on the Reeperbahn itself.
Große Freiheit and the Reeperbahn
Beatles-Platz, at the corner of the Reeperbahn and Große Freiheit, is the only purpose-built memorial. It is a round square 29 m across, paved in black granite like a record, with five steel silhouettes of the Hamburg line-up, and it opened on 11 September 2008.
Two clubs from 1960 on Große Freiheit still run as music venues. The Indra at number 64 is where the Beatles first played in Germany: 48 nights from 17 August 1960, until noise complaints ended the run. The basement Kaiserkeller at number 36 followed from 4 October 1960. Ringo Starr played on the same bill, drumming for Rory Storm and the Hurricanes.
The Star-Club building is gone. A memorial stone in the courtyard of Große Freiheit 39, through an archway from the street, marks where the club ran from 1962 to 1969.
On the Reeperbahn, number 136 was the Top Ten Club, where the Beatles played 92 nights in 1961, often backing Tony Sheridan. The Top Ten name ended in 1994, and the Molotow club has used the building since March 2025.
Away from St. Pauli
The Ernst-Merck-Halle beside Planten un Blomen hosted the band's last German concerts on 26 June 1966. It was demolished in 1986 to enlarge the trade fair grounds, and nothing on the site refers to the Beatles.
